Biography

Prof. Dr. Khalida Soomro is a distinguished Pakistani cardiologist with more than three decades of experience in clinical, non-invasive, and interventional cardiology. She holds an MBBS, Diploma in Cardiology, MD in Cardiology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).

She has held senior academic and clinical positions, including Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Cardiology at Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi. She has also served as a consultant/interventional cardiologist and has been associated with major cardiovascular institutions in Pakistan.

Prof. Soomro has contributed extensively to cardiovascular research and education, with more than 50 published articles and participation in several international studies, including INTERHEART and other major cardiovascular research projects. Her research interests include women and heart disease, hypertension, cardiomyopathy, coronary artery disease, interventional cardiology, cardiovascular prevention, and gender disparities in cardiovascular health.

She has played a prominent leadership role in cardiovascular medicine in Pakistan, having served as President of the Pakistan Cardiac Society and as Chairperson of its Scientific Council on Women with Heart Disease. She has also been involved in the Go Red for Women initiative in Pakistan and has contributed to guidelines and advocacy focused on cardiovascular health in women.

Prof. Soomro is recognized as a pioneering female cardiologist in Pakistan and has been an active speaker and contributor at national and international cardiology conferences. Her professional work continues to focus on advancing cardiovascular care, research, education, and awareness, particularly in women's cardiovascular health.
